Free Voices as a Method
Free Voices is an organization that operates according to a process
by which we, as individuals and groups, can overcome the social and
economic barriers associated with communication, education, and art.
We believe there should be no social or economic barriers to anyone,
be they academic, artist, or laborer, in being able to express themselves
or access information. This process takes place through four distinct
projects:
Project 1
Free Voices Networking For You Directory
Free Voices would like to give people the opportunity to travel
in the United States and around the world meeting members of various
communities, becoming involved in their lives and in turn, encouraging
involvement in our work. This is not done simply to involve individuals
and groups with Free Voices, but to involve them with each other
in an effort to create overlapping networks of viable and developing
culture and thought. These individuals, organizations, and groups
are listed in the Free Voices, Networking For You Directory so that
others can become familiar with their work and integrate themselves
in ways that are beneficial to all involved. As the Directory develops,
it can help lay the groundwork for strong networks of supportive
action and thought.
Project 2
Free Voices, eZine of the People and Free Voices,
pZine of the People
The eZine (online) and pZine (print) are tools, both for individuals
and organizations in communities, to express their ideas, share
information, and propose solutions to the problems they are seeing.
How is Free Voices different from other independent media? Most
independent media is dedicated to creating an awareness of what
is actually happening in the world among local communities. While
Free Voices is also dedicated to making people aware of news and
events, our purpose is geared more toward using enabling people
to proactively implement this information for the purpose of positive
change in their communities. It is our hope that as people read
articles and stories written by others, they will be able to add
something of their own experience or contribute a solution or part
of a solution to the issues. In other words, the eZine and pZine
are the foundation of a community based think tank.
Project 3
Free Voices Press
Free Voices Press will publish books on all manner of subjects utilizing
an agreement with the author that will not bind them to the degradations
of capitalist venture. Writers will be free of corporate influence
and be able to freely pursue their own academic or artistic endeavor.
This will be accomplished through an alternative marketing strategy.
More information on these issues will be posted as they develop.
Project 4
Free Voices Educational Community
Eventually, Free Voices will establish it's own community. This
community will have a focus on ecological sustainability and independence.
The structure of this community will be that of an alternative learning
institution. There will be space for all manner of education and
development. It will be a place where people from around the world
can come together to educate each other and focus on their own development.
It will not be a place for people to escape from the outside world,
but rather a point from which to interact with it in a healthy and
productive manner. More information on this community will become
available in the future.
