Telling the Truth....
Kerry's Militaristic Intent
By Jan Lehman
Kansas City, MO
I watched the first of the Presidential Debates in Florida with
amazement. Amazement, not at John Kerry's eloquence or George
Bush's stuttering comments, but at the audacity of the remarks
I was hearing. If I was unaware of the record of George Bush on
civil rights and illegal maneuvers that he has made while in office,
I would have actually thought that Bush, not Kerry was the lesser
of two evils. Continue

Killing Journalists in the
Philippines
By Jun Ariolo N. Aguirre
Manila, Philippines
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines expresses
deep concern about the pervasiveness of criminality and extra-judicial
killings or summary executions, assassinations, robbery, among
other crimes (nationwide) that victimize, not only ordinary citizens,
but journalists as well. In a statement, Carlos H. Conde, secretary
general of the NUJP said he believes that it is high time for
the public, the authorities, the media, the religious sector,
the business community, and other sectors to make a strong stand
against violence, particularly the series of killings of journalists.

Americans Say No to Unilateralism
By Jim Lobe
Despite his standing in the polls, George Bush's post-9/11 foreign
policy views are broadly rejected by both the average American
and by public leaders, according to a major new survey released
Tuesday by the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations (CCFR). The
survey, titled "Global Views 2004: American Public Opinion
and Foreign Policy,' found that 76 percent of the general public
reject the notion that Washington should play the role of world
policeman and 80 percent believe that the U.S. is currently playing
that role "more than it should be." Continue

Talking About....
I Heart Huckabees
Review by Brandon Batzloff
Editor, Free Voices
Finally, someone has chosen a medium in which to critique our
movements, sub-cultures, corporate culture, and the cultural clash
taking place in this country. "I Heart Huckabees" is
a comedic film that digs through the false realities that we have
constructed around us and lays out the truth about who we are
and why we are fighting against each other. The fact that it is
done in a humorous fashion makes it easier to digest and leaves
you pondering the deeper meanings later when you have left the
theater.

Donnie Darko: Director's
Cut
Review by Jericho Oaalls
Chicago, IL
Who doesn't agree that Donnie Darko was one of the best films
of all time? And what could have been better than it's theatrical
re-release as a director's cut? Well, maybe that is not completely
true. Unfortunately, director Richard Kelly dismantled the amazing
soundtrack he originally had and replaced it with something that
did not have quite the same effect. Of course, us die hard Darko
fans might be the only ones who really feel the absence of Echo
and the Bunnymen singing "The Killing Time."
