Telling the Truth....
Blowing the Whistle on the 9-11 Commission
in San Francisco
By Carol Brouillet
Palo Alto, CA
9-11 is being used as a pretext for endless war abroad, to strip
people of basic rights, to crush dissent, for the militarization
of the US, as outlined by the think tank, Project for a New American
Century, which stated the process of transformation is likely to
be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event- like
a New Pearl Harbor. Continue

Democratic Party Platform Shows Shift to
the Right on Foreign Policy
By Stephen Zunes
San Francisco, CA
With the backdrop of ongoing death and destruction in Iraq as a
result of the 2003 U.S. invasion and subsequent occupation, the
Democratic Party formally adopted their 2004 platform July 28 at
their convention in Boston. The platform focused more on foreign
policy than it had in recent years, providing the opposition party
an opportunity to challenge the Republican administration's unprecedented
and dangerous departure from the post-World War II international
legal consensus forbidding such aggressive wars as well as a means
with which to offer a clear alternative to the Bush Doctrine. Continue

From DNC2RNC, the Long March
By Starhawk
San Francisco, CA
We’re marching out of New Haven, this band of about sixty
people, some of whom have marched all the way from Boston. I’ve
joined the DNC2RNC march for two days, the group that is going on
foot from the Democratic National Convention to the Republican National
Convention. Continue

The New American Blacklist
By Mark Foley
Ft. Lauderdale, FL
The divide in American ideology is at a heated peak. Opposing views
are lashing out in the spirit of Free Speech. This petition is a
petition of support. It is also a petition of protest in defense
of Freedom of Speech. Below is a short list of celebrities who have
been black listed; celebrities who, upon speaking out against the
reckless policies and actions of the Bush Administration were met
with sharp threats and in even some cases job loss from the use
of their Constitutionally granted Freedom of Speech. Continue

Racial Profiling at DNC
By Mik Tulumello
Warren Center, PA
After finishing up doing some media work for the Binghamton Progressive
Media Center recording events at the Boston Social Forum, I found
myself drawn to the A.N.S.W.E.R march protesting the Democratic
National Convention. I saw my presence there as ironic because as
a laid off art teacher in rural upstate New York, recent cuts in
art education due to increases in homeland security funding have
deprived me of finding a job in my own field. So I wanted to go
check out the security to get an idea of what exactly we traded
our art and music teachers for. I also wanted an idea of what the
democratic convention goers would see while they were in the streets
of Boston. I was not disappointed. Continue

DNC Leaves Boston in Militarized State
Re: DNC in Boston: Continuing the Trend Toward Militaristic Control
By Brandon Batzloff
Editor, Free Voices
In the original story, i stated that "The streets of Boston
are once again safe now that the many spy and authority agencies
as well as the military have vacated the area." This was a
gross error. On August 6th, the Boston Police Department announced
that they were going to continue the hypermilitarized police presence
seen during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in "trouble"
neighborhoods. Continue

Crying Art....
Native-Made
By Travis Coleman
Lawrence, KS
This Story first appeared in Reznet as a project for the Freedom
Forum's American Indian Journalism. The artist holds high the kaleidoscopic
beaded star. His pride in
the unfinished piece is evident. His long, gray ponytail bobs as
he speaks, shifting seamlessly from English to Dakota, a language
he knows fluently. Outside his rural
Wakonda, S.D., home, a Native American sweat lodge sits. But Chad
Nielsen is not what you think. Continue

Last Word....
Currently, i am in new York preparing for the Republican national
Convention. It is great to see the masses of people who are showing
up here with their creative juices bubbling! There is so much for
everyone to be involved with. Even those of you who cannot be in
New York can contribute, as we saw in Carol Brouillet's article
where she talks about the nationwide whistle blowing action. You
can also help to support some of your local grassroots organizations
with financial contributions. Free Voices could also use your assistance
in these ways and with submissions of articles about the work you
are doing. Keep the energy high and the resistance alive!
peace love victory,
